To accompany this newsletter, I suggest starting with a timeless song that, I hope, will bring a touch of elegance to your day.
Press play and let yourself be carried away by the enchanting sounds of David Bowie’s “Changes.” 🎶 This melody, full of introspection and renewal, perfectly reflects the spirit of autumn, a season of transformation, rediscovery, and new adventures.
As the leaves begin to fall and the October light bathes the streets in golden hues, this edition invites you to explore places where the everyday is reinvented. We embark on a journey to discover these hybrid spaces where the boundaries between work, relaxation, and sport dissolve, giving way to unprecedented and inspiring experiences.
In this time of year, marked by the return of routines, it is more important than ever to find places that nourish the spirit and revitalize the body. Whether climbing a wall, enjoying a drink with friends, or finding a coworking space within an old chapel—these third places and unusual spaces offer refuges where innovation and conviviality meet.
In this edition, we invite you to discover three unique addresses that embody this philosophy:
• CLIMBING DISTRICT – Paris: An old chapel transformed into a versatile space where climbing meets coworking and socializing. This place redefines the limits of convention and attracts an audience in search of new experiences.
• COAL DROPS YARD – London: This historic site is a perfect example of successful rehabilitation, where industrial buildings have been transformed into a vibrant space. Designer boutiques, art galleries, and cafés come together to create an urban and creative atmosphere.
• REFETTORIO – Paris: Designed to combine art, gastronomy, and social initiatives, this unique place offers an unexpected experience in an unusual setting. Here, dining meets art and a solidarity project in a space where the industrial past blends with modernity.
These three places are as many testimonies to a new way of investing in urban spaces. At the crossroads of retail, art, sport, and social commitment, they redefine the codes of the modern city by offering a true break from the everyday.
Whether you are curious or simply in search of a new breath of fresh air, I hope these three addresses will awaken your curiosity and offer you a moment of disconnection and wonder.

CLIMBING DISTRICT is located at 26 bis rue de Saint-Pétersbourg, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, a residential and dynamic area of the capital. What makes this place unique is its location in a former chapel. The historic building, once a place of worship, has been entirely redesigned to become a multifunctional space, combining climbing, coworking, and socialization.
The former chapel has been restored while preserving its original architectural features: large arches, impressive ceiling heights, and stained-glass windows. The site, steeped in history, has been transformed with particular attention to architecture and design, creating a unique atmosphere where the old meets the contemporary.
CLIMBING DISTRICT was conceived to meet the new needs of urbanites looking for versatile and flexible spaces. The rehabilitation of the former chapel is part of a broader trend of transforming heritage sites into modern, multifunctional spaces.
The design of CLIMBING DISTRICT respects the history of the place while integrating modern and minimalist elements. The architects highlighted the chapel’s ceiling heights, creating a bright and open space. The mix of old and organic materials like stone and wood with contemporary elements like metal and glass creates a minimalist and welcoming ambiance.
The climbing walls, with clean lines, occupy a large part of the space. They blend perfectly into the venue’s aesthetic, with sober colors and natural forms. Relaxation and coworking areas are arranged around the central climbing space, offering a breathtaking view of the entire structure.
The interior design is simple and functional, with straight-lined furniture and plant touches that bring a soothing atmosphere. Natural light penetrating through the stained glass emphasizes the spiritual aspect of the place, creating an atmosphere conducive to relaxation and concentration.
The Experiences Offered :
CLIMBING DISTRICT is not just a climbing gym. It’s a true third place where visitors can enjoy different experiences depending on their needs and desires.
1. Climbing: The primary activity here is, of course, climbing. The professional-grade climbing walls are designed to accommodate climbers of all levels, from beginners to experts. Whether for intense training or casual climbing, CLIMBING DISTRICT offers courses, open sessions, and workshops suitable for everyone.
2. Coworking: Surrounding the climbing walls, coworking spaces have been set up. These spaces are equipped with tables, ergonomic chairs, and Wi-Fi connections to allow freelancers, students, and entrepreneurs to work in an inspiring setting. Working in a former chapel with a view of the climbers creates a unique atmosphere, far from conventional offices.
3. Socializing and Relaxation: CLIMBING DISTRICT also offers a café and bar area where visitors can meet after a climbing session or a day of work. The drinks and snacks are designed to be both delicious and healthy, in a relaxed atmosphere where exchanges and meetings are encouraged. A place of conviviality par excellence, this space allows you to gather around a drink in a relaxed and atypical setting.
What to Remember :
CLIMBING DISTRICT is a hybrid space that redefines the use of a historic building by adapting it to the modern needs of urbanites. At the crossroads of sport, work, and relaxation, it is a place where climbing meets conviviality and coworking. This former chapel, transformed into a third place, perfectly embodies the current trend of rehabilitating historic buildings into multifunctional spaces while preserving their original charm.
What I Like :
What I particularly like about CLIMBING DISTRICT is its ability to merge several worlds into one place. Climbing in a former chapel, surrounded by stained glass and stone walls, is a unique experience in itself.
The contemporary, minimalist, and welcoming design makes you feel at ease, whether you come to work, climb, or simply socialize. This modern approach to sport and work makes CLIMBING DISTRICT an inspiring and calming place, offering a real break in the hectic life of the capital.
COAL DROPS YARD is a flagship rehabilitation project located in the King’s Cross district of London. This historic site, once used to store coal transported by train to London in the 19th century, has been transformed into a vibrant urban space dedicated to culture, retail, and creativity. The two main buildings, constructed in the 1850s, were originally used to unload and store coal before it was distributed throughout the city.
After decades of industrial decline, the King’s Cross district underwent massive rehabilitation in the 2010s, transforming this once-abandoned area into a nerve center of London life. In 2018, after years of planning and renovation, COAL DROPS YARD opened its doors, breathing new life into these historic buildings while preserving their industrial character.
The transformation project was led by renowned architect Thomas Heatherwick, known for his innovative and heritage-sensitive approach. Heatherwick successfully combined tradition and modernity by retaining the original structures while adding bold architectural elements, such as the spectacular curved roof that connects the two main buildings. This roof, nicknamed the “kissing roof” due to its shape, has become a symbol of the renaissance of COAL DROPS YARD.
The design of COAL DROPS YARD is a successful blend of industrial heritage and modernity. The brick buildings, metal beams, and old train tracks have been preserved and integrated into the new structure, giving the place an ambiance that is both historic and contemporary.
The centerpiece of the project is the curved roof that connects the two original buildings. This bold roof, made of steel and glass, seems to almost float above the old structures. It creates a striking visual effect while sheltering an open central space, perfect for events and social gatherings. Inside, the design respects the raw character of the old warehouses with exposed brick walls and concrete floors, while adding contemporary touches with modern lighting and polished industrial materials.
The urban design of COAL DROPS YARD promotes smooth pedestrian flow and invites visitors to explore the boutiques, galleries, and restaurants that line the cobblestone streets and covered passages. The entire site creates a welcoming environment, conducive to discovery, where old and new blend harmoniously.
The Experiences Offered :
COAL DROPS YARD is much more than just a shopping center; it is a true creative and experiential district where every visitor can find something inspiring. Here are some of the experiences offered:
1. Designer Boutiques and Innovative Retail: COAL DROPS YARD is known for its selection of designer boutiques and independent brands. Unlike traditional shopping centers, COAL DROPS YARD favors creative and avant-garde stores, ranging from emerging young designers to established luxury brands. Boutiques like Tom Dixon, Wolf & Badger, and COS have set up shop here, offering unique fashion, design, and art pieces.
2. Art and Galleries: The venue also hosts art galleries and temporary art installations. Throughout the year, artistic events, exhibitions, and performances are organized, transforming COAL DROPS YARD into a dynamic cultural space. Art is omnipresent, with works displayed in public spaces, creating an atmosphere that is both inspiring and inclusive.
3. Gastronomy and Relaxation: Visitors can also enjoy a vast gastronomic offering. COAL DROPS YARD is home to numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars where creative cuisine is celebrated. Establishments such as Barrafina, The Drop, and Morty & Bob’s offer inspired menus in settings as aesthetically pleasing as their dishes. Visitors can savor a meal outdoors on terraces, while enjoying the lively atmosphere and views of the canals.
4. Events and Festivals: COAL DROPS YARD is a lively place where cultural and commercial events are regularly organized. Pop-up markets, concerts, outdoor screenings, and festivals bring this district to life, attracting a diverse clientele and creating a festive atmosphere throughout the year.
What to Remember :
COAL DROPS YARD is a model urban rehabilitation project where historic industrial buildings have been transformed into a vibrant creative and cultural space. This place embodies the future of retail by focusing on an approach that is both artistic, collaborative, and oriented towards customer experience. Visitors discover much more than just a shopping area: they explore a district where art, design, and culture come together in an inspiring setting.
What I Like :
What I particularly like about COAL DROPS YARD is the way this place embodies urban renewal while respecting London’s industrial heritage. The transformation of these old coal warehouses into a designers’ district is a success on all fronts, both architecturally and culturally. The mix of history, contemporary design, and art creates a unique environment where you can shop, discover art, and enjoy quality cuisine. The curved roof, a true architectural masterpiece, is reason enough to visit this iconic place.

REFETTORIO – Paris is more than just a restaurant; it’s a place where gastronomy, art, and solidarity converge. This unique project was inaugurated in 2018 in the crypt of the Church of La Madeleine, in the heart of Paris.
Conceived by the renowned Italian chef Massimo Bottura, in partnership with the Food for Soul association, this space is part of a global movement aimed at combating food waste while providing high-quality meals to those in need.
The initiative of REFETTORIO dates back to 2015, when Massimo Bottura launched the first REFETTORIO in Milan during the Universal Exhibition. Since then, several other REFETTORIOS have emerged in cities around the world, including Rio de Janeiro, London, and Paris. Each of these locations operates on the same principle: recovering surplus food and transforming it into gourmet meals served to people in need.
The Church of La Madeleine, with its imposing neoclassical architecture, provided an exceptional setting for this project. The crypt, which was once used as a storage space, has been transformed into a warm and welcoming environment. Through the collaboration of chefs, artists, and designers, REFETTORIO – Paris has become a place where not only food is shared, but also humanity, art, and beauty.
The design of REFETTORIO – Paris is a collective work, the result of collaboration between architects, artists, and designers. The crypt of the Church of La Madeleine has been completely redeveloped to offer a bright and welcoming space, far from the dark and austere image one might imagine. Artists such as JR, Prune Nourry, and Ramy Fischler have contributed to creating an atmosphere where art interacts with gastronomy.
The furniture was carefully selected to evoke a convivial and familial ambiance. Large wooden tables, colorful chairs, contemporary artworks on the walls, and elegant tableware contribute to making REFETTORIO – Paris a place where aesthetics are as important as what’s on the plate. The goal is to ensure that everyone who walks through the doors of the refectory feels welcomed with dignity and respect.
The architecture of the space also highlights natural light, which enters the crypt through carefully arranged openings. This gives the underground space an almost sacred atmosphere, conducive to reflection and sharing.
The Experiences Offered :
REFETTORIO – Paris is not just a solidarity restaurant; it’s a place where the experience goes beyond the meal. Here are some of the experiences offered in this unique place:
1. Solidarity Gourmet Meals: Every evening, volunteer chefs prepare gourmet meals from surplus food for people in need. The menus change depending on the available ingredients, and the dishes are always prepared with great attention to quality and creativity. The aim is to provide a meal worthy of a starred restaurant in an inspiring setting.
2. Art and Design: Art plays a central role at REFETTORIO – Paris. The works displayed in the restaurant invite contemplation and dialogue. The artists and designers who contributed to the transformation of the space intended to make it a place where people feel good, where beauty can nourish the soul as much as food nourishes the body.
3. Special Events and Workshops: Beyond the meals served to people in need, REFETTORIO – Paris also organizes special events open to the public. Charity dinners, cooking workshops, conferences on food waste, and art exhibitions are regularly offered. These events help raise public awareness of the importance of solidarity and the fight against food waste.
4. Chef Collaborations: REFETTORIO regularly invites renowned chefs to cook for the beneficiaries. These collaborations allow for the offering of high-quality meals while strengthening the link between haute cuisine and social action. Each chef brings their personal touch, transforming ordinary ingredients into extraordinary dishes.
What to Remember :
REFETTORIO – Paris is a place where the boundaries between cuisine, art, and solidarity are pushed. It’s a unique project where starred chefs, artists, and volunteers come together to offer gourmet meals to those in need. Beyond the solidarity aspect, the Refettorio is also a place for reflection on food waste and the importance of beauty and art in our daily lives. Massimo Bottura’s initiative proves that gastronomy can be a powerful tool for social change.
What I Like :
What I particularly like about REFETTORIO – Paris is the way this place restores dignity to people in precarious situations through art and cuisine. The beautiful setting, the artworks, and the refined dishes create an experience that goes beyond just a meal: it’s a true celebration of humanity and solidarity. I also appreciate that this place is not limited to its social mission but also opens up to cultural and artistic events that raise public awareness of essential issues. It’s a place where one feels connected to others, where each visit is a source of inspiration and reflection.
The places we’ve explored – CLIMBING DISTRICT, COAL DROPS YARD, and REFETTORIO – embody a new way of thinking about retail and urban spaces. They go far beyond simple consumption, offering unique experiences where well-being, creativity, and socialization intersect.
Experiential retail is becoming increasingly important. These places don’t just sell products; they offer moments, experiences to live that leave lasting impressions. Today, what consumers are seeking is that connection, the feeling of having experienced something different, something memorable.
What I particularly appreciate is the ability to reinvent vacant or old spaces, transforming them into places of meeting and inspiration. Innovation is no longer confined to products but extends to the spaces themselves, which become true destinations.
These third places show us that authenticity and humanity are at the heart of the modern city. They remind us that the essence of today’s retail is to offer meaningful experiences that create lasting memories.
